HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Voting is open for the next oklahoman.com high school athlete of the week ballot for Jan. 3-9.

The deadline is noon Wednesday. Athlete of the week voting occurs each week during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports.

Boys basketball

Austin Frazier, Sr., Cashion: Frazier was a scoring machine at the Three Rivers Conference Tournament, averaging 23.3 points per game (including a 32point performanc­e in the opener against Thomas) along with 7.6 rebounds. He helped Cashion win the tournament for the fourth straight year.

Luke Gray, So., Oklahoma Christian School: Gray averaged 16.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game at the Stroud Tournament, earning MVP honors. His biggest moments came in the championsh­ip game against Mannford when he blocked to shots on the final two plays to seal the win.

Maddox Mecklenbur­g, Jr., Kingfisher: Mecklenbur­g was consistent for a Kingfisher team that won the Wheat Capitol Tournament at Chisholm for the eighth time in the past nine years. He averaged 14 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game to earn tournament MVP.

Girls basketball

Ashlyn Evans-Thompson, Sr., El Reno: The senior averaged 14.6 points a game to lead El Reno to an Anadarko Tournament championsh­ip. EvansThomp­son also had 11 steals, 10 assists and 10 rebounds to earn tournament Most Valuable Player. El Reno is 8-1 on the season.

Emma Stover, Jr., Okarche: Stover averaged 18 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks to lead Okarche to a Three Rivers Tournament championsh­ip. Okarche is 16-1 on the season. Makenzie Gill, Sr., Dale: The senior led Dale to a Kingston Tournament championsh­ip. Dale beat Atoka, Class 2A sevent Silo and No. 2 Latta. Gill was named tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 17 points per game.

Boys swimming

Noah Evans, Jr., Carl Albert: He won the 100-yard breaststro­ke with a time of 1:13.95 at Shawnee’s four-team meet Tuesday. Carl Albert placed second in the team standings.

Owen Flynn, Sr., Heritage Hall: He placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:08.94) and 100 breaststro­ke (1:03.89) at Thursday’s meet hosted by Edmond Public Schools.

Jacob Moad, Jr., McGuinness: He had a strong performanc­e in the 100 freestyle at the Edmond Public Schools meet, placing second with a time of 53.19.

Girls swimming

Rachel Ly, Jr., Edmond Santa Fe: She placed second in the 200 freestyle (2:07.17) at the Edmond Public Schools meet on Thursday. Ly also placed third in the 100 freestyle (57.72).

Natalie Selman, Jr., Shawnee: She won two individual events at Shawnee’s meet Tuesday. Selman placed first in the 100 breaststro­ke (1:13.40) and 200 freestyle (2:07.81) as Shawnee earned the win and finished ahead of threetime defending Class 5A state champion Carl Albert.

Emma Smith, Sr., Edmond Memorial: Her top finish at the Edmond Public Schools meet Thursday was in the 200 individual medley (2:16.17).

Boys wrestling

Harley Andrews, Sr., Tuttle: The heavyweigh­t beat Mustang’s defending Class 6A state champion Christian Rowland 7-5 in the finals at the prestigiou­s Geary Tournament last weekend. Andrews, a Nebraska signee, led Tuttle to a fourth-place finish.

Jaxon Randall, Sr., Edmond North: The defending Class 6A 170-pound state champion claimed the title at the Geary Tournament. Randall, a University of Central Oklahoma signee, had one technical fall and two major decision wins before beating Edmond Memorial’s Ben Mower 13-7 in the finals. Randall also helped Edmond North capture the team title. The Huskies finished ahead of defending state tournament champions Stillwater (6A), Collinsvil­le (5A) and Tuttle (4A).

Kaden Smith, Sr., Bridge Creek: The OU signee won the 132-pound title at Cushing’s invitation­al. Smith defeated Skiatook’s Josey Jernegan 4-2 in the finals, improving to 18-2 on the season.

Girls wrestling

Kaylee Davis, So., Yukon: The defending 161-pound state champion is off to a strong start to the season. She won the 152-pound title at the Inola Tournament last week.

Klaribel Kirk, So., Guthrie: The 100pound state runner-up last season, Kirk pinned Mackenzie Graves of Bentonvill­e (Arkansas) in 38 seconds during the Inola Tournament.

Harley Stringer, Jr., Moore: She led the Lions to a second-place finish in Inola, winning the 107-pound championsh­ip. Want to nominate someone for Player of the Week?
