Touch-a-Truck event set

EDMOND — Edmond Electric is accepting entries for its annual Touch-a-Truck event planned for June.

This year’s event will be June 4 on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma. Touch-A-Truck is a fundraisin­g event that provides kids of all ages the opportunit­y to experience life-sized vehicles and interact with community support leaders like police officers, firemen, constructi­on workers and more. Edmond’s own fire trucks and police cars, an Edmond Electric bucket truck and a solid waste truck will be available for hands-on exploratio­n. Admission for Touch-A-Truck is a suggested $2 donation with all proceeds going to The Hope Center of Edmond to benefit residents in need.

Round Barn concert is Saturday

ARCADIA — Western folk singer-songwriter Nellie Clay will be joined by Chicago-based songwriter Joe George for a Saturday concert at the Arcadia Round Barn. The concert will be at 7 p.m., and the loft of the Round Barn will open at 6 p.m.

“Nellie Clay is a perennial favorite at the Round Barn, and this concert is sort of a sneak preview of our Sunday afternoon Elm Tree Concert Series, which kicks off this year on May 1,” said Joe Baxter, who coordinate­s the live music at the barn.

Admission to the concert is a suggested $20 donation at the door.

Greenhouse sale planned

EL RENO — The annual spring greenhouse sale will be Friday at Canadian Valley Technology Center’s El Reno Campus, 6505 E State Highway 66.

During the sale, the greenhouse will be open between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the east side of the campus. Ample parking is provided north of the greenhouse. Parking is not permitted in the bus loop south of the greenhouse. Students enrolled in the school’s Service Careers-Building and Grounds program planted seeds and have been nurturing varieties of annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, herbs, house plants and vegetables, all grown inside the school’s climate-controlled greenhouse.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit activities associated with the student organizati­on SkillsUSA.

POTLUCK LUNCH: The Central Oklahoma Chapter of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia will host its annual April Founders’ Day potluck lunch at 12:30 p.m. April 23. A presentati­on on “Finding Unexpected Relatives” will be given by Marianne Long, founder and first president. Participan­ts are asked to bring their favorite lunch dish to the event, which will be at Our Lord’s Lutheran Church, 2900 W Hefner Road in The Village.

CAPITOL PROJECT: Trait Thompson, executive director of the Oklahoma Historical Society, served as project manager on the state Capitol restoratio­n project for the Office of Management and Enterprise Services. He will give a presentati­on about the project at the Edmond Genealogic­al Society’s meeting.
