Music competitions
The Ladies Music Club of Oklahoma City recently announced winners from its annual music competitions at Oklahoma City University.
The event provided music scholarships to 45 students from many Oklahoma high schools and universities, with $27,000 given to students winners.
High school students who won first place included: Jenny Nguyen, Mustang High School, Flute Award; Jacinta Johnson, homeschool, Zachritz Harp Award; Emma Boothby, Tuttle High School, Nichols/Pirrong Percussion Award; Lily Coyer, homeschool, Ad Astra Strings Award; and Kayla Cao, Jenks High School, Pianists Division Award.
College-age students who won second place included: Viviana Goodwin, OCU, Haire Vocal Award; Ethan Warren, Oklahoma State University, Henderson Brass Award; Cheldon Gatz,
OSU, Nichols/Pirrong Percussion Award; Christia Celis, University of Central Oklahoma, WW/Reed Award;
Lingxiao Fan, OSU, Boettger/Webber Piano Award; Katie Crim, OCU, Flute Award; and Christophe Delgado, OCU, Ad Astra Strings award.
College students who won first place included: Jennifer Zhang, OSU, LMC Piano Award; Jace Harris, University of Oklahoma, Nichols/Pirrong Percussion Award; Madeline Hager, OCU, Flute Award; Ezekiel Malone, Armstrong College, Ad Astra Strings Award;
Audrey Jergensen, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Zachritz Harp Award; Macey Trussell, OCU, Haire Vocal Award; Naomi Wharry, UCO, Henderson Brass Award; and
Chris Maxwell, OCU, WW/Reed Award.
Class marshals
The University of Central Oklahoma honored five students as class marshals of their respective colleges for the spring 2022 semester, recognizing them for their academic excellence.
Students earn the title of Class Marshal for achieving the highest academic records within their colleges during their time at UCO.
Ashton Yeargin majored in accounting and achieved a 4.0 GPA in the College of Business. He is a graduate of Blanchard High School. Yeargin plans on taking the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and obtaining a CPA license to provide accounting services to independent pharmacies.
Aren Thompson majored in music — jazz performance and earned a 4.0 GPA in the College of Fine Arts and Design. Thompson is a graduate of Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences and a Tulsa native. Thompson plans to move to Chicago to continue his pursuit of a career in music.
Kelsey Garcia majored in criminal justice and forensic science and earned a 4.0 GPA in the College of Liberal Arts. She is originally from Pueblo West, Colorado. Garcia plans to serve the com
munity and become a police officer for the Edmond Police Department.
Emily Hurt majored in psychology and forensic science and earned a 4.0 GPA in the College of Education and Professional Studies. She is a graduate of Midwest City High School. Hurt plans to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an agent after law school.
Kassandra Camua majored in chemistry – health sciences and biology – biomedical sciences and earned a 4.0 GPA in the College of Mathematics and Science. She is an Oklahoma City native. Camua will be participating in Oklahoma IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (OK-INBRE) to continue her passion of research and will continue her passion for science in the field of medicine as a physician associate.
