OKLAHOMA CITY - Phillip Ray “Phil” Poelstra, 62, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away unexpected­ly on September 24, 2022, in Kamas, Utah, from an unforeseen heart condition. He was on the trip of a lifetime, riding his dirt bike and spending time outdoors.

Phil was born January 16, 1960 in Greenbrae, California to Ray and Bonnie Poelstra.

He graduated from Cal Poly State University with an engineerin­g degree in 1982 and went on to earn a Master’s in finance from The University of San Francisco.

After graduating, Phil began his career as a Financial Analyst for Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco. He worked in finance, until his retirement from MidFirst Bank in 2019.

The highlight of Phil’s life was his one true love, Sandy, whom he married in July 2000, and remained devoted to for the rest of his life. They shared many memories with their extraordin­ary Labrador Retriever, Beau.

An avid outdoorsma­n, Phil participat­ed in many cycling events, including the “Hotter’N Hell” ride in Wichita Falls, Texas. He loved fishing and was a huge sports fan, especially of the San Francisco Giants baseball team.

Phil was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. He shared his birthday with his twin nieces, Paige and Lexie, enjoying ice cream balls at Cheevers every year to celebrate.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Phil is survived by, his loving wife of 22 years, Sandy, of Oklahoma, his sister, Janet Poelstra, of California, his sister(s)-in-law, Susanne Fisher and Jody Wolfe, of Texas, his nephew Abram McNeal of Texas, his nieces, Paige and Lexie Wolfe of Oklahoma, his Aunt Mary Groggel of Michigan, and many cousins in San Francisco, Michigan, Utah, and France.

A private family memorial service is planned in California for the Spring of 2023.
