- —Hallie Hart, Staff writer

A surging team has entered the top 10, shuffling the standings after a statement win.

Each week, The Oklahoman’s Hallie Hart takes a look at the top high school boys basketball teams in the Oklahoma City area. Here are the rankings for Feb. 2-8:

1. Putnam North (16-1)

The Panthers maintain their spot atop the standings. They added to their resume with a Jan. 26 win against Choctaw, a solid team that has dealt with depleted depth because of injuries. Putnam North cruised past the Yellowjackets, 85-45.

Up next: Friday at Ponca City

2. Carl Albert (14-3)

The Titans took care of business against Piedmont last Friday, winning 58-33. Quincy Hopkins finished with a team-high 20 points, and Jordan England added 17. Up next: Friday vs. Guthrie

Up next: Friday vs. Del City

4. Dale (21-0)

Dale strengthened its case as a top-five team with a true team-oriented win at Oklahoma Christian Academy last Friday. 8. Oklahoma Christian School (16-2)

Fans packed Oklahoma Christian School’s gym for the Friday rivalry game with Crossings Christian, and the Saints didn’t disappoint their home crowd. Other teams considered

Millwood (9-9): The Class 3A Falcons stacked their schedule with teams in larger classifications, so they’re gearing up for the postseason. Millwood defeated 4A John Marshall, 68-60, last Friday.

Newcastle (16-2): The formerly 10thranked Racers dropped out of the standings by default because OCS jumped up, but their season remains strong. Newcastle dominated Cache, 89-32, last Friday.

Putnam West (8-8): Although the Patriots are sitting at .500, none of their losses are bad. Their challenging schedule has featured several out-of-state matchups, and they are the sole team to defeat Putnam North.

Southeast (9-6): The Class 5A Spartans have potential for a deep postseason run. They added a win last Friday, defeating Tulsa Central, 87-74.
