Two best friends embark on an incredible journey together. They ride unicorns and dinosaurs, catch fish, and ride trains. The real life friendship of George West, founding father of Panama City, Florida, and Narciso “Hawk” Massalina inspired this book. Author Spears was born and raised in Panama City and is the great grandson of Hawk. His 14th book is realistic fiction based on the life and friendship of George and Hawk as elementary students.
•“Expelled: A Story of the Polish Resistance” by Beth M. Stephenson (Kindle edition, 385 pages, available online)
Aleks is the last of the Wojcik line. His grandfather and others in a secret network of freedom-lovers see the evil fomenting as the Nazis gain power across the border. If Poland is to survive, their children must be prepared to survive until the enemy is defeated. But the Polish Resistance desperately needs courageous patriots and Aleks and his companions refuse to merely hide. An inspiring story of youthful bravado, courage and faith triumphing over the midnight evil in world history.
•“Mary Had a Little Glam (Volume 1)” by Tammi Sauer (Union Square Kids, 32 pages, in stores)
In this fun take on Mother Goose, fashion-forward Mary helps some of childhood’s most beloved characters go glam. From the kid who lives in a shoe (and dons some fab footwear, too) to Jack, who breaks his crown but gets a great new one, Mary’s school friends look fantastic in their finery.
