HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Voting is open for the oklahoman.com high school athlete of the week ballot for Feb. 13-20.
Here are the nominees.
Boys basketball
Trashaun Combs-Pierce, Jr., Norman: Combs-Pierce posted a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds as the Tigers blazed past Edmond Memorial, 50-34. He also added one steal and one block. Micheal Graham Jr., Jr., Southeast:
Graham recorded 34 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals as Southeast defeated Guthrie, 76-70, in overtime. Then he tallied 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals in a 71-54 win against Lawton Eisenhower.
Braeden Lloyd, Jr., Mount St. Mary: Lloyd had 31 points, three assists, four rebounds and four steals as the Rockets closed the regular season with a 63-58 victory against Heritage Hall. He went 12 for 14 at the free-throw line.
Girls basketball
Keeley Parks, So., Norman: Parks performed on both ends of the floor to lead the Tigers to two wins last week. She scored 26 points and had six steals against Stillwater before scoring 33 points and recording 11 steals against Edmond Memorial. Norman is on a 7-game win streak.
Parker Simonsen, Jr., Mustang: Simonsen has led Mustang all year in scoring, and she didn't slow down last week. Simonsen scored 21 points against Moore. Mustang is on a four-game win streak heading into the postseason. Amyah Sutton, Sr., Classen SAS: Sutton took over in the Comets' two games last week. She averaged 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals as Classen SAS beat then-undefeated Washington and then McCloud for the district championship. Sutton finished her four-year career at Classen SAS with an undefeated home record.
Boys swimming
Riley Conway, So., Edmond North: He won the Class 6A state title in the 50 freestyle (21.09) and placed second in the 100 freestyle (47.84) on Friday in Edmond. Conway also helped Edmond North claim championships in the 200 freestyle relay (1:53.83) and 200 medley relay (1:35.50) as the Huskies won the team crown.
Carson Dolezal, Sr., Edmond Memorial: He had a stellar performance in the 100 butterfly at the Class 6A state meet, placing fourth in 53.61.
Ethan Lee, Sr., Yukon: He had a great finish in the 100 butterfly at the Class 6A state meet, placing second with a time of 53.20.
Girls swimming
Gabby Beck, Fr., Norman: She placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.66) and eighth in the 100 butterfly at the Class 6A state meet.
Ashley McDonald, So., Shawnee: She placed third in the 200 individual medley (2:27.18) and eighth in the 100 backstroke (1:08.57) at the Class 5A state meet Saturday. McDonald helped Shawnee win the 200 medley relay (1:53.83) and 400 freestyle relay (3:47.58) while playing a big role in the Wolves claiming their second straight team title.
Shelbie Price, Sr., Carl Albert: She placed eighth in the 50 freestyle (27.43) and ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.70) at the Class 5A state meet. Along with that, Price was a part of Carl Albert's 200 freestyle relay team (1:47.61) that placed second and its 200 medley relay team (2:12.24) that placed fourth. The Titans finished second in the team standings.
Boys wrestling
Kyler Kurtz, Sr., El Reno: He won the 120-pound championship Saturday at the Class 5A West Regional at Carl Albert.
Holden Martin, Sr., Westmoore: He captured the 175-pound title at the Class 6A West Regional in Piedmont. Martin also helped Westmoore place second in the team standings.
Randy Nix, Sr., Newcastle: He claimed the 215-pound crown at the Class 5A East Regional in Pryor.
Girls wrestling
Chloe Hodge, Fr., Harrah: She won the 235-pound championship Tuesday at the East Regional in Sallisaw.
Alex Ray, Fr., Edmond North: She advanced to the state tournament after winning the 155-pound crown at the West Regional in Mustang.
KyLee Smith, Fr., Moore: She won the 100-pound title at the West Regional and helped Moore claim the team championship.
