Edmond North still No. 1 after undefeated regular season

Each week, The Oklahoman’s James D. Jackson ranks the Fab 10, the top high school girls basketball teams in the Oklahoma City area. Here are the rankings for Feb. 23:

1. Edmond North (23-0)

The Class 6A Huskies took down Edmond Santa Fe last week to complete an undefeated regular season. Now, they’ll focus on defending the 2022 6A gold ball.

2. Putnam City West (19-3)

The Class 6A Patriots stormed past Midwest City last week and now set their sights on Regionals with an eightgame winning streak.

3. Tuttle (22-2)

The Class 4A Tigers took down Cache in district play and now move on to regionals. They have hit their stride exactly when they needed to and now hold a 15-game winning streak.

4. Bethany (23-1)

The Class 4A Bronchos routed Bishop McGuinness in district play and now move on to regionals, holding a 13-game winning streak.

5. Dale (25-1)

The Class 2A Pirates added one more win to their now 25-game winning streak after taking down Wynnewood in districts.

6. Edmond Memorial (18-4)

When healthy, the Class 6A Bulldogs are a top-three team in the city area. But injuries have plagued them at the end of their year, and they dropped their second consecutiv­e game, this time against Norman.

7. Norman (17-4)

The Class 6A Tigers have put together a run to end the season and now they’ve earned a spot in the top 10 after a win over Edmond Memorial. Norman is on a seven-game win streak.

8. Bethel (21-3)

The Class 3A Wildcats have been impressive during the last two months of the season and now hold a 10-game win streak. Bethel took down Okmulgee in district play last week. Previous rank: 10

9. Washington (22-1)

The Class 3A Warriors didn’t play any games last week, so their status is unchanged.

10. Carl Albert (18-5)

The Class 5A Titans had a rough week, splitting their two matchups. They snuck by Shawnee but fell to Del City in a close battle. Previous rank: 7

Just on the outside

Class 6A Midwest City (16-6): The Bombers have had a tough schedule to end the season and with the late run by Class 6A Norman, have fallen out of the top 10.

Class 5A El Reno (15-5): El Reno didn’t play any games last week so its status is unchanged.

Class 3A Jones (19-5): The Longhorns routed Star Spencer in districts.
