OKLAHOMA CITY - Lee Pierce Howard, a resident of Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, 17 March 2023 at the age of 79.

Preceding Lee in death are his parents, Robert Groves Howard, Sr. and Margaret (Pierce) Howard, his brothers, Robert Groves Howard, Jr., John Campbell Howard, Pascal Michael Howard, his sisters Mary Jean Howard, Francis Joan (Howard) Imes, and infant sister, Mary Margaret Howard.

Lee was born in Electra, TX, and raised in Wewoka, OK. In his senior year of high school, Lee enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard, worked for Sebastian Radio and TV Shop and was a part-paid fireman for the City of Wewoka. After graduating from Wewoka High School in 1961, he completed basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC and returned to Wewoka where he worked for Western Electric. In August 1962, Lee worked for the City of Wewoka Fire Department as a full-time shift Lieutenant. In September 1964, Lee was selected for Active Duty and completed several assignment­s reaching the rank of E7 within 6.5 years of enlistment in 1960. Upon selection and graduation from Officer Candidate School, he achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Lee was promoted several times during his career and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel as the Director of Informatio­n Management, HQ STARC OK ARNG. While on active duty, Lee received his B.S. in Military Science from the Command and General Staff College in 1978, he received his B.S. in Informatio­n Management from Oklahoma City University in 1986 and his M.S. from Oklahoma State University in OAED Resource Management in 1989.

Lee was well respected for his achievemen­ts during his military career, his contributi­ons to preserving his family history for future generation­s and for his unwavering efforts to educate others in ALL things.

Lee delighted in sharing his knowledge of military history, working as a Master Carpenter and Electricia­n, repairing old cars, ensuring the proper handling and maintenanc­e of firearms as an Expert Marksman, and golfing. He was proud of his Native American heritage and service to his country. But Lee believed his greatest contributi­on to the world, and the one thing he was most proud of, was his four daughters.

Lee is survived by his daughters, LaDonna Nichols and husband Chris of South Mills, NC, Janelle Marshall of Riva, MD, Jamie Harris and husband Bill and Becky Hart and husband Calman, of San Diego, CA; his grandchild­ren Logan (and wife Shaunee) Self, Billy Harris, Lindsay Nichols (and fiancée, William (Billy) Wakeman), Elizabeth Harris, Miranda Hart, Dylan Nichols, Charlie Hart (and fiancée, Amber Truett), Victoria Marshall (and fiancée, Gregory Imhoff) and Hannah Harris; his great-grandchild­ren Lola, Braxton and Brody Wakeman and Willow Self; his sisters Margaret Snyder of Jacksonvil­le, FL and Barbara Griggs of Yukon, OK; his brothers James E. Howard I and wife Tracy of Norman, OK and Philip Howard and wife Jane of Wewoka, OK and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces/nephews and other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, 22 March, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Thursday, 23 March, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and Friday, 24 March, 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A rosary service will be held at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka, OK at 6:30 p.m., Friday, 24 March. A funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Seminole, OK at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, 25 March with Father Joe Schwarz officiatin­g with interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangemen­ts by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka, Oklahoma.
