Well water screening offered

The Oklahoma Water Resources Center is set to conduct well water analysis for residents in Oklahoma City from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at the OSU Extension Conference Center, 2500 NE 63.
The purpose of the free well water screening is to help well owners better understand and safeguard their drinking water quality. Water samples will be screened for nitrates, total dissolved solids, pH and bacteria.
Well owners who would like to have their well water analyzed need to contact the OSU Extension Conference Center for information on how to collect a sample.

Bank seeks to complete 350,000 acts of kindness
Each February, millions of people come together to change the world, one random act of kindness at a time. First United Bank will be mobilizing its stakeholders once again this year with the goal to complete 350,000 acts of kindness in one day.
First United Bank’s United Acts of Kindness Day, held this year on Feb. 16, serves as a day for communities to come together to spread joy, hope and love to friends, family, co-workers and neighbors through acts of kindness.

Metro Tech to showcase local businesses
The Metro Tech Black History Month Celebration is scheduled 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 15 at the District Conference Center, 1900 Springlake Drive.
This year’s celebration theme, “Black History Through the Decades,” showcases local, Black-owned businesses, community resources and artists while providing opportunities to join breakout sessions, sit in on a panel discussion and enjoy cultural entertainment.
The event is free and open to the public. Vendor registration is now open with a $25 gift card or inkind donation of equal value by Jan. 31. AARP Oklahoma opens award nominations
Nominations are open for the 16th annual AARP Oklahoma Native American Elder Honors, celebrating 50 Native American elders who have positively impacted the country, state, communities and Indian Country. Nominations are accepted at aarp.org/OKNativeAmericanElderHonors. The nomination period closes on March 31. This year’s AARP Oklahoma Native American Elder Honors celebration will occur on Nov. 6.
To be eligible, you must be enrolled members of one of Oklahoma’s 39 tribal nations age 50-plus, should
demonstrate leadership, and will be selected based on impactful contributions.

Sunbeam plans chili cook-off
NORMAN — Sunbeam Family Services is partnering with Main Street Pottery for a Chili Bowl Cook Off from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 17 at UP Together Venue, 428 E Main St. in Norman.
This cook-off is to raise awareness about becoming a foster parent and raise donations to support Sunbeam foster families. The community is invited to attend and encouraged to participate in the competition. Must register by Feb. 9.
For a suggested $10 donation, guests will sample chili and vote for their favorites. For $20, guests can sample chili and take home a a bowl of their favorite in a handmade bowl by Main Street Pottery. For a $25 entry fee, participants can enter the Chili Cook Off and could win the $100 grand prize.

Styrofoam recycling event set
NOBLE — Got any packing Styrofoam from your holiday gifting? Bring it to the Styrofoam Recycling Event from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 24 at the First Baptist Church of Noble, 330 E Chestnut.
Bring packing Styrofoam, take-out food packaging, to-go drink cups, any of your Styrofoam items and let us recycle in the densifier machine. Bring the kids, they will love to see the Foam Recycling Green Team machine in action.
We ask that you remove tape and paper labels; and that food serving items have no remaining food, dirt or grease in them. The foam after it is densified, is shipped off and used to make patio furniture and other products.
