State Capitol prayer events are set
National Day of Prayer activities will be held on May 2 at the State Capitol, 2300 N. Lincoln Blvd.
The annual observance is held the first Thursday of May, inviting people of faith to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. This year’s theme is “Lift Up the Word, Light Up the World,” based on based on 2 Samuel 22:29-31, which states, “For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness.”
Hosted by the Oklahoma National Day of Prayer Task Force team, activities will be held on the south plaza of the Capitol and participants may bring their own lawn chairs. The events will be held on the second floor rotunda in case of inclement weather, otherwise the second floor rotunda will be used as an area for small-group intercession throughout the day.
Dwayne Hall, coordinator of the National Day of Prayer events at the State Capitol, said pre-session music and setup will begin at 8. A afternoon National Day of Prayer program will be held from noon to 1:45 p.m., while an evening program is set for 6 to 8 p.m.
