Robert H. ‘ Bob’ Meyers
ONEIDA — Robert H. “Bob” Meyers, 86, Bates Avenue, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, in the Extended Care Facility of the Oneida Healthcare Center, with his loving family at his side.
Born in Somerville, N. J. on April 27, 1926, he was a son of James and Anna Berkaw Meyers. A resident of the area since 1949, Bob attended Smyra High School. He married E. Jean Eastman in a double wedding ceremony with Jean’s sister Dorothy and John McCowell in Waterville, on Sept. 24, 1949.
Mr. Meyers went to serve our country during World War II with the United States Army in the Pacific Theater.
Prior to his retirement after 55 years of service, Bob was employed with Associated Transport. He later became an independent trucking contractor and finally was associated with CT Trucking. He was active in many organizations, Teamsters, Utica Local, the Oneida Citizens Hose Company No. 1, Oneida Post 169 American Legion, Durhamville Veteran’s Club and Camp 4 Hunting Camp. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, great lover of animals, nature and his grandchildren. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving besides his wife, Jean, are two daughters and sons- in- law, Virginia and Charles Pendleton of Oneida and Pamela and Robert West of Clockville; four sons and two daughters- in- law, Douglas J. Meyers of Oneida, Robert S. Meyers and Sue Nichols of Peterboro, Donald B. and Lisa O’Neill- Meyers of Soquel, Calif. and Richard J. and Lee Meyers of Pratts Hollow; one sister, Gertrude Miller of Venice, Fla.; one brother and sister- in- law, Harold and Ellen Meyers of the State of Washington; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Thomas E. Meyers on July 24, 1971, one sister, Janet Gorton and one brother, James K. Meyers.
Funeral services will be held 11 a. m., Thursday from the First Presbyterian Church. Interment with full military honors will take place in Glenwood Cemetery, prior to the church service. Friends may call at the CampbellDean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida, from 47 p. m., Wednesday. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the City of Oneida Tree Program, 109 N.
