MUNNSVILLE — Richard C. Dillman, 79, of 5721 West Road died Thursday morning, June 14, 2012, at his residence following a long illness with his loving family at his side.
He was born June 13, 1933, in Oneida, the son of Howard and Julia Sattler Dillman. On July 23, 1955, he was united in marriage to the former Bertha J. Eaton.
Mr. Dillman had been employed as a firefighter for Griffiss Air Base in Rome. For many years he had owned and operated a gunsmith shop and knife sharpening business at his home, and was also a self- employed carpenter. He was a U. S. Navy veteran, and had served aboard the U. S. S. Harwood. He was a member of the Munnsville American Legion Post No. 54.
Surviving are his wife, Bertha; one son and daughter- inlaw, Donald and Terry Dillman of Oneida; four daughters and two sons- in- law, Diane and Ronald Duis of Kansas, Julie and Richard Wilson of Munnsville; Penelope Dillman of Munnsville and Donna Derwoyed of Victor; one stepson and daughter- in- law, Joseph and Arlene Ingalls of Oneida; two step- daughters and one son- in- law, Nancy Crane of Knoxboro and Sharon and David Smith of Texas; a sisterinlaw, Alberta Dillman of Verona; 17 grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren and several nieces nephews. He was pre- deceased by two sons, Richard Carl Dillman Jr. and Thomas Michael Dillman.
At Mr. Dillman’s request, services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no hours of public visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Madison Cortland ARC, 701 Lenox Ave., Oneida, N. Y. 13421. Arrangements are under the direction of the Coolican- McSweeney Funeral Home, 322 Washington Ave., Oneida, N. Y.
