Albert A. Patricia, 87, of 118 W. Grove St. Oneida, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, in the ICU at Oneida Healthcare. He passed peacefully with his family at his side.

Albert was born on May 29, 1925 in Oneida, the son of Angelo and Liberata Mizzoni Patricia. He was a lifelong resident of Oneida and was a graduate of Oneida High School Class of 1943. He was a starting pitcher on the baseball team and the starting quarterbac­k on the football team.

Al proudly served his country with the U. S. Navy from 1943- 46 during World War II. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga when it was hit by kamikaze fighters while the Saratoga was supporting the landings on Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged with the rank of aviation radioman third class. He then attended St. Lawrence University on the GI Bill and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree.

He married Janet McDermid of Jamestown, Scotland, on June 12, 1954 in St. Joseph’s Church, Oneida.

For more than 40 years, Al was employed in insurance sales and management with Metropolit­an Life Insurance Company in Rome and then the Continenta­l Insurance Company before retiring in 1987.

a time as the executive director of the Oneida Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving besides his wife, Janet, are two sons and daughters- in- law, Kenneth ( Donna) Patricia of Getzville, N. Y. and Thomas ( Valerie) Patricia of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter and son- in- law, Jane ( Patrick) DiLullo of Hudson, Ohio; five grandchild­ren, Ken Patricia, Tim Patricia, Eric DiLullo, Kelly DiLullo and Madelaine Patricia, and several nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by his brother Etalo in 2007 and his sister Ida in 2005. He was also pre- deceased by seven cousins.

A prayer service will be held 9: 30 a. m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2012 from the Ironside Funeral Home, followed by a 10 a. m. funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, Oneida, with the Rev. Richard J. Kapral officiatin­g. Burial with military honors will be made in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call 2- 4 and 6- 8 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home 342 Main St., Oneida.
