Giovanni ‘ John’ Milana, 82, of Canastota

Giovanni “John” Milana, 82, formerly of 114 Lewis St., Canastota, died on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Focus Rehabilitation & Nursing at Utica, following a brief illness.
He was born on March 8, 1930, in Castiglione, Sicily, Italy, the son of Vincenzo and Anna Spadaro Milana.
Giovanni spent his early years in Sicily, attending school there. He later lived in France for 14 years, moving back to Sicily before moving to Canastota in 1978.
He had served in the Italian Army.
Giovanni worked for Owl Wire & Cable Company in Canastota for 12 years, retiring in 1992.
He enjoyed playing cards, watching the Italian soccer team, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Giovanni attended St. Agatha’s Church in Canastota.
He married Angela Farina on Aug. 3, 1968 in San Pier Niceto, Sicily.
Surviving besides his wife, Angela, are one son and daughter- in- law, Francesco “Frank” and Kara Milana of Oneida; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Rosaria Milana, Kelsey Evelyn Mi- lana, Jack David Milana, and Gio Francesco Milana; one brother and two sisters- in- law, Angelo and Maria Milana of Catania, Sicily, and Victoria Milana of France; one sister, Tana D’Amico of Canastota; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Giovanni was predeceased by two brothers, Anzelmo Milana and Ciccino Milana.
Funeral services will be held 2 p. m. next Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Canastota. The Rev. Dennis H. Dewey, pastor of the Stone Presbyterian Church, Clinton, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agatha’s Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Sunday ( prior to the service), from noon to 2 p. m. at the funeral home, 201 James St., Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of CNY, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, N. Y. 13204, with envelopes available at the funeral home. J. HOMER BALL FUNERAL HOME
