Joseph A. “Papa” Langlois, 76, of Canastota, died on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse following a lengthy illness.

He was born on March 4, 1936, in Syracuse, the son of Joseph, Sr., and Catherine Ludgate Langlois.

Joe spent his early years in Syracuse, attending the Syracuse schools. He later lived in Chittenang­o, Lakeport and Canastota.

He worked in the Maintenanc­e Department in the Chittenang­o School District for many years.

Joe was a Korean War veteran, serving overseas with the U. S. Navy.

He enjoyed woodworkin­g, camping, bird watching, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchild­ren.

Joe married Charliene E. ( Cromp) Graham on Dec. 31, 1977 in Bridgeport. Charliene died on Aug. 10, 2002.

Surviving are: two daughters, Kim and Cathy; three step- sons, Wayne Graham of Chittenang­o, Dennis Graham of Lake-

port, and Douglas Graham of Mississipp­i; three stepdaught­ers and two step- sons- in- law, Bonnie and Richard Haylor of Chittenang­o, RoxAnne and Mike Carroll of Lakeport, and Paula Graham of North Syracuse; as well as several grandchild­ren, great- grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews, including a special granddaugh­ter, Heather Freeborn. Joe was predecease­d by a son, David Langlois.

Private services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Lenox Rural Cemetery, Canastota. At Joe’s request there will be no calling hours. Arrangemen­ts are under the supervisio­n of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota. In his memory, contributi­ons may be made to the Chittenang­o Center for Health & Rehabilita­tion, Activities Department, 331 Russell St., Chittenang­o, NY 13037.
