HOLLAND PATENT >> The last time Canastota’s girls basketball team played Holland Patent, a lopsided loss was the result. Friday night the underdog Raiders had a better showing in their Class B playoff game against the Golden Knights but they still lost 47- 33.

Coach Vinny Salamone’s team stayed even with HP ( 17- 2) midway through the second period. That’s when Alyssa Curtis made backto- back shots and Jessica Li- vesey scored off a turnover to stretch HP’s 16- 15 edge to 2315 with 3: 32 left in the half.

Canastota ( 7- 12) clamped down defensively until the horn, holding HP and its star forward Allyson Freiermuth scoreless. The trouble for the Raiders was they too were scoreless during that stretch and a run was needed to start the third quarter to have any chance of an upset win.

HP went on one instead, scoring seven unanswered points before Canastota made one last run. Chelsea Dolloff took a pass from Shea Foster for a three- point play then Foster scored on a drive through the HP zone. The Golden Knights responded with an 8- 2 run to end the period and scored the first two baskets of the fourth to ice the win. Freiermuth led a balanced effort with 13 points and Curtis added 11.

Foster led the Raiders once again to end her career. The school scoring leader had 17 points while Dolloff and Danielle Carlone had seven apiece and Abby LaFlair had two points to round out Canastota’s offense.
