Unmowed laws irk neighbors
Neighbors can be forced to maintain minimum standards
A See, Click, Fix user is upset by overgrown lawns in the City of Oneida.
ONEIDA >> From time to time, users of the See, Click, Fix interactive map at OneidaDispatch. com indicate their neighbors have less than stellar lawn mowing habits.
Recently, a map user pinned a street in Oneida with a heading “Mow your lawn,” and made mention that “dandelion fields are not attractive.”
“Such an eyesore,” the comment continued.
According to the City of Oneida Department of Public Works, there is a remedy for neighborly complaints of lackluster lawn mowing.
First, contact the codes officer. In the City of Oneida it’s part of the Fire Department; the phone number is 315- 363- 1910. There you can find out how to make a report. Once a report is filed with the codes officer, he inspects the situation and if warranted, issues a ticket to the individual to mow the lawn.
If the party responsible does not comply within the time frame stated on their ticket, the matter is then sent to the city Department of Public Works for further action. The DPW will come out and mow the law; however, there is a price, said Jon Rauscher, city engineer. The DPW will charge $ 100 for the first 15 minutes of mowing. And about $ 20 for every half hour after that.
Rauscher said that because of the fees, the only properties that usually come to the DPW’s attention are homes that have been foreclosed on.
