Casino deal bad for Oneida County

-

I am writing to give you my views on the tentative agreement of Gov. Cuomo, Mr. Halbritter, Oneida and Madison counties.

First, the agreement preamble in Item II refers to a “sovereign nation” ( Oneida). This is not true as the Oneidas are a tribe, not a nation. The United States of America states there shall be no other nation ( U. S. Constitution).

It appears that Gov. Cuomo, Mr. Picenti ( Oneida County executive), and Mr. Becker ( Chairman of the Madison County Boar of Supervisors) are interested in creating a dominant Indian nation in what is now Oneida County land today. Oneida County will cease to exist if this agreement is accepted. I would certainly feel a further study would be recommended before a final vote on this matter.

Operating the Turning Stone casino illegally has given the Oneida tribe unlimited money to control everyone to further their interest. If anything, at this time a new casino compact should be considered. I would recommend a “No” vote at this time. After two decades of disagreements, I feel we should not be in a hurry to seek approval at this time. mander DeNatale of the Gold Star Legion of Staten Island at Mid- Winter conference. They had lost four legions during the storm and without those posts much outreach was needed.

This truly was an amazing year at Post 169. As we continue to serve our veterans, active duty, their families and the community I again would like to thank each and every one of you who has shown the support in whatever way that you could to make it the memorable year that it has been.

God Bless America.
