The following is a listing of area Memorial Day celebratio­ns.

Sunday, May 26

MUNNSVILLE: The Munnsville American Legion Post 54 will hold its annual Memorial Day parade today at 1 p. m. The parade will step off from the Ferris Industries parking lot, travel south down Route 46 and end at the corner of Valley Mills/ Williams Road. Following the parade, all are invited to attend the memorial service at the post home at 6311 East Hill Road.

Monday, May 27

MADISON: A memorial Day Parade will step off at 11 a. m. in Madison at Madison Central School on state Route 20. The parade route will then travel east to the village line then double back and head up South Street, ending at the Madison Village Cemetery. At 11: 30 a. m. the American Legion Post 1556 will hold a solemn service there.

CAZENOVIA: The Cazenovia American Legion Post 88, invites the community to come to Memorial Park on Albany Street in Cazenovia, on Monday to participat­e in the observance of Memorial Day. Solemn ceremonies will be held, speeches given, wreaths laid, rifle salutes, and taps played to honor those who served in the military.

The Legion’s color guard will step off the parade to Memorial Park from the corner of Emory Ave. and Forman St. in front of the high school at 10: 30 a. m. rain or shine. Parade groups should start lining up at 10 am. Those organizati­ons wishing to march in the parade should contact the parade coordinato­r Frank Gallucci at 655- 3652 for informatio­n.

All veterans are welcome and encouraged to march. Vehicles will be available for those veterans who feel the long walk would be too strenuous. Veterans needing transporta­tion to the parade and/ or needing a ride in the parade should call Ron McDermott at 655- 2037 or John Colligan at 6552233 to make arrangemen­ts.

The parade will end at Memorial Park. Guest speaker will be Steve Kinne, one of the cofounders of Clear Path for Veterans. After the memorial ceremony, the parade will be ordered to resume march to its starting point. All parade participan­ts are invited to the Cazenovia Fire House for a light lunch after the parade.

Other events for this Memorial Day include a noon memorial service will also be held by Post 88 at the South Cemetery on Number Nine Road to honor veterans buried in all of our community cemeteries. Graveside flags and regular flags can be purchased at The Chamber of Commerce, 51 Albany St. ( Phone: 655- 9243) and Gissin Photograph­y, 25 Williams St. ( Phone: 655- 2224).

SHERRILL: Sherrill Post 230 American Legion will hold a Memorial Day parade and ceremonies on Monday. The parade will form up at Route 5 and Sherrill Road and begin at 9 a. m. Full services honoring departed war veterans will be held in Triangle Park immediatel­y following the parade. Following the Memorial Day ceremonies, Sherrill Post 230 invites the public to the post for refreshmen­ts.

CANASTOTA: Canastota will host a Memorial Day parade on Monday. The parade begins at 10 a. m. at Roberts Street School at 120 Roberts St., and follow Peterboro Street to Clark Park. A memorial service will immediatel­y follow the parade at Clark Park. After the ceremony, everyone is invited to the Charles Miller American Legion Post 140 at the corner of South Peterboro and Rasbach Streets.

VERONA: Verona Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6811 will host a Memorial Day observance Monday at 12: 30 p. m. A parade will start at Joel’s Steak House at Route 31 and Main Street, and proceed to the Verona Memorial Park. There, Sgt. Cody Rooney of the United States Marine Corps will speak. Rooney, from Diberville, Miss., enlisted in the USMC on Sept. 11, 2007. Since then, he has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanista­n. He is currently a Marine recruiter in Rome. The Verona VFW will place flags on graves of all known veterans in the Town of Verona.

VERNON CENTER: Vernon Center will hold a parade on Monday at 9 a. m. The parade march will begin in front of the Vernon Center Fire Department, 5786 Youngs Road, and end at the Vernon Center Cemetery where Marvin Stein, commander of American Legion Post 404 will lead a memorial ceremony.

VERNON: A Memorial Day parade will begin at the William Russell Post on state Route 5 in the village of Vernon with an opening ceremony and 21- gun salute. The parade will have several ceremonial stops, including another 21gun salute in front of the Vernon Fire Department. There will be a wreath tossing by a Gold Star Mother into the creek on state Route 31, just before turning on Cooper Street and proceeding to the Vernon Village Cemetery.

The Vernon Town Board will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 1 p. m. at the Veterans Memorial in front of the town office building located at 4305 Peterboro Road in Vernon. Refreshmen­ts will follow.

SYLVAN BEACH: Sylvan Beach American Legion Post 1153 will hold a service at the village park on state Route 13 at 11 a. m.

Thursday, May 30

The Madison County War Veterans will hold a ceremony to honor deceased veterans at 10: 30 a. m. at the memorial located at the county office complex on South Court Street in Wampsville.
