Cazenovia girls finish second at Section III Class B Championsh­ips

Hamilton girls place second in Class D Championsh­ips

Second- place finishes in a variety of track events, including the 4x800, 400- meter hurdles and the 2,000- meter steeplecha­se helped earn the Cazenovia girls track and field team an overall team second- place finish in the Section III Class B1/ B2 Championsh­ips at Chittenang­o on Tuesday. The Lakers recorded a final score of 103, just behind first- place finisher Skaneatele­s’ 109.

The Cazenovia and Hamilton girls team, which also placed second, was the highest finish among Dispatch- area teams in this week’s many Section III championsh­ips.

Cazenovia was propelled behind second- place finishes by Jeannette Cudney in the 3,000 with a time of 11: 14.73; Megan Stanford in the 400- meter hurdles with a time of 1: 11.89, tenths of seconds behind first- place finisher Raenah Campbell of Skaneatele­s. Malone Gabor also finished second in the Steeplecha­se and the 4x800 relay team of Stanford, Colleen Stalder, Maureen Milmoe and Jeanette Cudney took second with a time of 10: 06.88. Perhaps most notable for the Lakers, however, was Ashley Winn’s absence. The sprinter was unable to compete in the 100 and 200.

In the same Tuesday B1 Division competitio­n, Vernon- Verona- Sherrill came in fourth with 73 points and Chittenang­o was eighth with 21 total points.

In the B2 Division Canastota was eighth with 20 points.

Friday in the boys and girls Class A Championsh­ips at Camden High School the Oneida girls team came in eighth with 26 points while the boys finished fifth in the A2 Division with 53 points.

Also in the girls Class A was Camden, who came in 11th with 20 points. The boys team finished right behind Oneida in the A2 Division with 39.5 points in sixth place.

In Class D Hamilton girls continued to excel, finishing second behind foe Remsen with 94 points.

Hamilton’s 4x400 team of Clara Jones, Sage Hurta, Maddie Lemal- Brown and Emeline Jones took first with a time of 4: 09.01 and Clara also took first place in the 400- meter hurdles while Hurta took first in both the 800- meter run and 200- meter dash.

The Hamilton boys team finished fourth with 57 points.
