Lots to do around Oneida Lake

The biggest lake completely in New York state has a lot to offer

ONEIDA LAKE >> While many will visit Sylvan and Verona Beaches this summer, there is still plenty to do all around Oneida Lake.

Kayakers of all skill levels can head to Stone’s Marina Kayak Club on 9247 North Road in Bridgeport. The club has 35 kayaks available to rent and offers lessons for those just starting out.

For $ 20 kayakers can rent a boat for four hours, or $ 40 for the entire day. Kayakers should bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a plastic bag to keep electronic items dry, water shoes or flip- flops and a change of clothes.

The marina is currently open Wednesdays through Sundays until Nov. 1. For renters the club is open from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. Lessons are available from 9 a. m. until 12 p. m. until Sept. 5.

Members are allowed to launch their own kayaks and store their kayaks at the club. Members will have access to a shuttle that picks up at Fisher Bay Restaurant and brings them back to the marina. Members also have use of the marina’s grills and pavilions.

Another attraction in the area is the Oneida Shores County Park, located on 9400 Bartell Road in Brewerton. The park is open year- round and offers season beach and boat launch passes.

The beach has a guarded swimming area for swimmers with a section for inf latables. A bathhouse is open during the beach season. This year the beach is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a. m. to

For those looking to stay dry there are over 50 campsites with a shaded lake view, along with spaces for tents or RVs. The site is open from Friday through Monday until Oct. 14.

While in Brewerton, stop by the Brewerton Speed- way, a one- third mile clay racetrack. The speedway holds competitio­ns throughout the summer

The track hosts a variety of different divisions throughout the summer, including DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, ESDCA Mod Lites, Four Cylinder Super Stocks and Gladiators. Gates open at 5: 30 p. m. and racing begins 7: 30 p. m. every Friday night through Aug. 30. General admission is $ 12, or free for children 18 and under.
