MORRISVILL­E >> Stephen Fukes, 93, of Christian Hill Road passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton.

He was born July 23, 1920 in Passaic, N.J., a son of Michael and Waselyja Lazurowych Fukes. Growing up on the family farm in the Town of Schuyler, he received his education in a one-room schoolhous­e. Stephen served in the U.S. Army from 1939 to 1940, and was later drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served in World War II from 1943 to 1945. On Aug. 30, 1941, he married Jessica Miazga in Utica. She predecease­d him on Sept. 25, 1972. He married Anne Yaworski in July 1973, and she passed away in March 1995. Stephen owned and operated Fukes’ Welding and Machine Co. until his retirement. Along with his brothers and brother-in-law, he had previously owned Fukes and Furgal Constructi­on in Utica. Stephen was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the John A. LaPolla V.F.W. Post No. 8728 in Schuyler. He was an avid deer hunter.

Surviving are his daughter, Carol A. Mahar of Morrisvill­e; daughter-in-law, Sandra Fukes of Whitesboro; sister, Irene Fur- gal of Chadwicks; sister-in-law, Vi Fukes of Governeur; brothers and sisters-inlaw, Nicholas and Veronica Fukes of Bridgeport and John and Edna Fukes of Clinton; grandchild­ren, Michael A. Mahar, Jr. of Eaton, Paula Marie Mahar of Utica, Wende Warne and Jim Paine; great-grandchild­ren, Emily Rose and Kathryn Mae Mahar, Jessica Suzanne and Christin Anne Mahar, E.J. Weeks, Ashleigh Weeks, Keira Warne and Jeremy Paine; and several nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by a son, Stephen J. Fukes; a grandson, Stephen J. Fukes, Jr.; and two brothers, Matthew and Andrew Fukes.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisvill­e, followed by interment with military honors in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.

Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service.
