Teacher prepared Top 2 for college
Top 2: Valedictorian and salutatorian credit math teacher with pushing them to do their best
The Class of 2014 valedictorian and salutatorian said that without calculus and geometry teacher Ronald Luteran, they don’t think they would’ve been nearly as successful in high school. Valedictorian Kevin Hopsicker took first in his class with a 98.22 GPA. He plans to attend Middlebury College in Vermont as an un- declared major. He said he may pursue economics, but isn’t sure what he wants to do after college. Salutatorian Emma Dudley ended up in second with a 97.73 GPA. She plans on attending the University of Rochester with a premed major, minoring in Spanish. Eventually, she hopes to become a pediatrician. Both agreed their AP Chemistry and Calculus classes were the most difficult, and probably prepared them the most for college. For Dudley and Hopsicker, Luteran is the person who inspired themto do their best. “He really pushes his students hard to succeed,” Hopsicker said. “He’s one of the only teachers that always gets us to do our best.” “He’s just always so enthusiastic,” Dudley said. “You can always tell he really wants to teach us.” Both agreed that hard work and dedication to coursework are a must for high school success. Hopsicker spent more of his time outdoors and playing sports, including football, basketball and the envirothon team. Dudley was more study- oriented, participating in the academic decathlon and Shakespeare club. While Hopsicker said he spends most of his free time hiking, Dudley said she is an avid knitter. Cazenovia will hold its graduation ceremonies on Saturday, June 28 from11 a. m. to 1 p. m. on theMiddle- High School green, 31 Emory Ave.
