SHERRILL>> John T. Wojdyla, age 78, of Kinsley Street, passed away unexpected­ly Monday evening June 2, 2014 at his home.

He was born on March 27, 1936 in Rome, N.Y. the son of the late John and Dorothy (Wright) Wojdyla and was a graduate of Rome Free Academy High School, Rome, N.Y.

On Sept. 22, 1956 John and the former Janet Lunn were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Church in Rome, N.Y. and shared a loving union of over 55 years together.

Prior to his retirement he was an employee of Oneida Ltd. Silversmit­hs for over 40 years. John proudly served in the United States Army National Guard as Lieutenant Colonel and retired after 30 years of service. He was also employed by the Oneida Community Golf Course for over 10 years where he loved his customers and “bosses.” John was known by many of the community members as “Pop” and loved to share jokes just to make others smile.

John was a communican­t of St. Helena’s Catholic Church in Sherrill. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and entertaini­ng at his home. His pride and joy in life were his children and his grandchild­ren, who he also adored and enjoyed spending time with.

Surviving is his loving wife, Janet of 55 years; his three children, Mark Wojdyla, Lee (Allan) Farrell, Lynn (Tim) Barber; five beloved grandchild­ren, Holly Farrell, Jill and Laura Wojdyla, Tim and Allison Barber. He is also survived by his two brothers, Dick (Mackey) of Sherrill and Robert of North Carolina; a brother-in-law, Robert of Whitesboro and sister-inlaw, Shirley (Norm) Denny of Sherrill as well as several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Private calling hours were held at the family’s convenienc­e. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St Helena’s Church on Primo Avenue in Sherrill. Burial will follow in St. Helena’s Cemetery, Oneida, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to St. Helena’s Church in John’s memory. Arrangemen­ts are with the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., Sherrill, N.Y.
