Vienna handled decision better than Sherrill did

Considering the parties involved, I am not surprised at the Sherrill vote on to approve rhe contract with Oneida County, and claim a share of the OIN settlement money.

I am surprised the public wasn’t offffffffffffered more of a chance to get information and offffffffffffer input.

I attended the meeting in Vienna last Thursday and was pleasantly surprised to see a true democratic process in place.

The residents were invited to ask questions, voice concerns and opinions and then were asked to share what they learned with their neighbors. The vote was tabled to give the residents time to learn what was truly at stake. That evening a show of hands said they did not want to be bought for $54 a head. Thank you for your time.

Give your dad or grandad the honor he deserves

A suggestion for Father’s Day, June 15: give your WWII, Korean War or terminally ill veteran father or grandfather the gift of a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit monuments dedicated to their honor.

Honor Flight Syracuse will transport these veterans free of charge. Later era veterans will go on future missions. One hundred forty-eight veterans from Central, Northern New York and the Mohawk Valley have experienced the one-day mission to date.

Mission 004 is scheduled for Oct. 4, 2014.

You give the gift by getting an application from www.honorflflightsyracuse.org and helping your veteran complete it and send it.

A guardian accompanies each veteran. The guardian needs to be able-bodied and physically capable of walking/pushing a wheel chair considerable distances. Honor Flight provides a wheel chair for each veteran. A guardian application needs to be completed and submitted with the veteran’s. Family members (maximum age 65) are welcome to apply to be guardians.

The veteran application asks many health-related questions, not to disqualify applicants, but to allow the staffff of nurses on every flflight to attend to each veteran’s specifific health needs.

The return flflight is greeted by a Syracuse reception that can never be forgotten. It is indeed the best gift your veteran will ever have.

No Dad or Grandpa veteran to give it to? You can give it to a female veteran or a friend.

I was fortunate to go on unforgettable Mission 002.
