Vernon-Verona-Sherrill held its annual senior breakfast Thursday, and guests said they were proud of the respect and care the students showed them.

Consumer Science and Catering teacher Elissa Widomski said the event was a great opportunity for her students to test some of the things they’ve learned and do something positive to celebrate the holiday season.

Widomski and her students, along with the FFA students and middle school and high school jazz band, put on the breakfast for area senior citizens who sent in reservations to be a part of the event.

“Today is important because we get to meet people that are a part of our community,” said eighth grader Shelby Freeman. “If you are in these classes and you want to become a caterer or work with food service, this is a good experience.”

“We get to show our community just how much we appreciate them and what they do for us,” said tenth grader Jasmine Clinch. “For everything they’ve given, we get to give back.”

“This event is great,” said Vernon resident Cliff Doane. “I’ve been to several of these events, the food has always been good and the service is great.”

“It teaches kids the importance of responsibility,” said Vernon resident Linda Collins.

“It really shows how much these kids respect and care about the people around them,” said Margaret Doane.
