Redistricting, green energy on docket for council
ONEIDA >> There will be a special meeting of the Common Council on Monday to discuss redistricting within the city.
Council will hold a work session at 1 p.m. to discuss the project, which would realign the city’s Wards to even out populations within each area of the city. The current district lines have been in place for 30 years. Population numbers for each ward were calculated earlier this year, and the goal is to have no more than 5-10 percent population fluctuation between each district.
Current ward populations are: • Ward 1 — 2,196 • Ward 2 — 2,195 • Ward 3 — 1,809 • Ward 4 — 1,437 • Ward 5 — 1,800 • Ward 6 — 1,980 Oneida residents could have an easier time getting solar panels after Tuesday’s regular Common Council meeting.
Councilors will consider an ordinance that would streamline the process for roof-mounted solar panels approved for city residents, while also establishing a $100 permit application fee.
The Common Council will also review bids for self-contained breather apparatuses for the fire department, as well as roof replacement for the Kallet Civic Center, along with tree removal and trimming.
