Recognitio­n Dinner to honor eight for service

The Oneida Library Foundation will hold the annual event on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Kallet Civic Center.

ONEIDA >> The Oneida Library Foundation invites community members to a Recognitio­n Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Kallet Civic Center to honor eight people who have contribute­d their time, talent and expertise in the service of Oneida Public Library and the community at large.

The honorees include Bradford Adams, Gwynne E. Bodle, Barbara Chamberlai­n, Pamela Maihafer, Susanne Miller and Virginia Pendleton. Also being honored are Walid and Milda Toro, both of whom took advantage of the OPL’s adult-literacy program, Madison County Reads Ahead, to learn English as a second language and thereby achieve their United States citizenshi­p.

“The Oneida Library Foundation would like the community to know that there are individual­s who have done so much to support the Oneida Library in its mission to provide free access to books, programs, educationa­l

materials and research help,” Marilyn Mastrolia, the foundation’s president, said. “We hope especially that the friends and families of those who are being honored will attend the dinner.”

Adams and Miller have served the OPL over the years in various capacities, including serving on the OPL Board of Trustees and most recently as co-chairs of the New Library Project Capital Campaign Steering Committee. Maihafer and Bodle are being honored for their many years of devotion as adult-literacy tutors in the OPL’s Madison County Reads Ahead program. Well-known as a volunteer for the Madison CountyHist­orical Society, Chamberlai­n is also noteworthy for hermany years of service for the OPL. She has served on the library board and continues to be involved as a key member of the Friends of the Oneida Public Library.

Pendleton, who recently was honored by the Oneida Rotary for her volunteer work, has been a devoted friend of the OPL for years. She has volunteere­d at the library as the “Pajama Story Hour Lady,” as a performer in OPL theatrics and radio programs and as a tireless promoter of library services. Napoleon Cafe of Oneida will be catering the dinner at the Kallet, while jazz pianist Jim O’Mahoney will provide the music. Tickets for the dinner are $25 per guest. The Oneida Library Foundation, incorporat­ed as a private not-for-profit charity in 1996, is dedicated to serve the longterm needs of the Oneida Public Library.
