VVS boys, Camden girls fare well in tri-meet

Walker, Lucason lead pace field in Oneida

Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s Owen Walker and Camden’s Elizabeth Lucason won their respective races.

ONEIDA TRI-MEET >> The VernonVero­na- Sherrill boys and Camden girls cross country teams each earned a pair of wins in Tuesday’s tri-meet at Oneida. Owen Walker was the top finisher for the boys with a time of 18:08.4, followed by his Red Devils’ teammate Owen Rose in second trailing by four seconds. Josh D’Angelo finished third for the Blue Devils (18:41) and Oneida’s top finisher was Nathaniel Jennings in eighth with a time of 19:33.5.

VVS’ wins came 15- 43 over Oneida and 21-34 over Camden. The Blue Devils beat the hosts 19-41 to earn a split.

Elizabeth Lucason dominated the field in the girls race, winning with a time of 18:36.5 which was well over a minute faster than her sister Morgan (19:48.1). Allison Donnelly followed in third for VVS (21:53.5) while Taylor Calienese led Oneida with a time of 22:33.1.

Camden’s girls beat VVS 2829 and Oneida 21-45 and the Red Devils salvaged a split with a 31-24.

Boys Soccer

ONEIDA 3, CAMDEN 1 >> Goals by Dylan Ratnarajah, Jeffrey Coulter and Isaac Colvin powered Oneida to the victory.

Oneida received scores from Rachel DeRuby, Kaya Suppa and Mariah Lenning in the draw. MORRISVILL­E-EATON 7, CANASTOTA1 >> Emily LeBlanc led a balanced M-E scoring effort with two goals and two assists in the victory. CHITTENANG­O2, INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AT SYRACUSE CENTRAL 0 >> Tiffany Scofield and Nicole Myers scored second-half goals for the Bears in the victory. MCGRAW 2, STOCKBRIDG­E VALLEY 1 >> Jill Jacobs’ unassisted goal was the lone score of the match for the Cougars.

CANASTOTA 2, SHERBURNEE­ARLVILLE 0 >> Shelby Kilts and Brianna Johnson scored second-half goals to secure a victory for the Raiders.

ROME FREE ACADEMY 4, CAMDEN 3 >> Three-set victories by Kirsten Cadrette andMarina Todora in third doubles and Zoey Baird and Alexis Fragapane in fourth doubles helped the Black Knights post the victory. WESTMORELA­ND 4, CANASTOTA 1 >> Kasey Cashel and Logan Hood teamed up to win second doubles 3- 6, 7-6(7-5), 10-3 for the Raiders. ONEIDA 5, NEWHARTFOR­D 2 >> Lauren Skibitski posted a 6-1, 6-1 second-singles victory for Oneida, which beat New Hartford for the third time this season. UTICA NOTRE DAME 4, VERNON-VERONA-SHERRILL 3 >> The Jugglers took third and fourth doubles in three sets to claim the victory.

Girls Volleyball

CAZENOVIA 3, JAMESVILLE­DEWITT 2 >> Danielle Tedesco’s 18 kills and seven blocks both led the Lakers in the 25-17, 21-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-19 victory. Teammate Molly Carges added three aces, 15 kills and 11 digs while Lauren Burbidge led Cazenovia with 20 digs and Lauren Lyons finished with a team-high 40 assists.
