Oneida, Cazenovia move on to girls tennis semis
Oneida and Cazenovia won Section III Class B quarterfinal matches over the weekend to advance.
The defending Section III Class B girls tennis champion dominated the singles matches in Saturday’s playoff match, winning all three in straight sets, and also got a close 6-7(2-7), 6-4, 7-6(8-6) victory from Kathryn Brown and Emily Marshall to run its win streak to 45 straight matches and return to the semifinals. Oneida will host Whitesboro on Wednesday at 3 p.m. for a spot in Friday’s championship match.
CAZENOVIA 6, NEW HARTFORD 1 >> The Lakers also moved on in the Section III Class B tournament, only dropping a point to the Spartans’ state qualifier Sarah Corasanti in first singles. Julia Barrett turned in a strong performance for last year’s Class C champion with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in third singles. Cazenovia advances to face Christian Brothers Academy on the road on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

CAZENOVIA 62, SOUTH JEFFERSON
12>> The Lakers beat up on a winless Class B East foe at home for the second straight week, routing the Spartans on homecoming weekend. Cazenovia burst out of the gates, taking a 41- 6 lead into halftime before scoring three more times in the third quarter. Eight different Lakers reached the end zone, including Anthony Vecchiarelli who had touchdown runs of four and 14 yards in the victory. Matt Regan had an eight-yard touchdown run and a 29-yard scoring pass to Matt McLaughlin while Austin Enders scored on a 36-yard carry and also threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Will Huftalen.
UTICA NOTRE DAME 25, CAMDEN 7
Josh Mayden’s two-yard touchdown run in the third quarter brought the winless Blue Devils within 12-7 of the Jugglers but a one-yard score from Tre Garrett followed by a 10-yard run to the end zone by AJ Papa sealed the hosts’ third victory of the season and kept themin a tie for third in Class B East.

CHITTENANGO 3, MEXICO 0 >> The Bears made a 2-0 halftime lead stand up, allowing only three shots on goal in the victory. Keoni Saturnio paced the offense with a goal and an assist.
STOCKBRIDGE VALLEY 2, OTSELIC
VALLEY 0 >> The Cougars shut out their third straight opponent over a four-day span to clinch a berth in the Section III Class D playoffs. Dillon Sansone’s goal in the 48th
minute gave Stockbridge Valley the lead and Andrew Renner added an insurance goal in the 64th minute.

MCQUAID INVITATIONAL >> Vernon-Verona-Sherrill fin- ished 15th out of 34 teams in its race and 90th out of 200 teams overall at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester. Owen Walker was once again the Red Devils’ top finisher with a time of 16:13.1, while coach Mike Dunne credited Spencer Walker’s (117th, 17:52.9) continued improvement as being a key for the team.
