Lots of fun and exciting historical events in coming weeks. They include:

•From 11 am to 3 pm the Chittenang­o Landing Canal Boat Museum will have live blacksmith­s working on site usinge traditiona­l techniques and methods. For informatio­n visit www.clcbm.org or call (315) 687-3801.

Sat., Sun., Oct. 8, 9

•From 10 am to 4 pm the Chittenang­o Landing Canal Boat Museum will host a New York State Designer All-Hands Meeting. The event is open to the public with museum admission and includes blacksmith demonstrat­ions, and goods made by members for sale. Proceeds will benefit the John Rausch-Memorial Scholarshi­p as well as Chittenang­o Landing Canal

Boat Museum.

Tuesday Oct. 11

•From10 amto 4 pm, the Madison County historian will host Archives day in the atrium on the first floor of Building 4 (DMV building) at the county complex. This year will feature the portraits of judges that once hung in Madison Hall and the Madison County Courthouse until the 1960s. Over a dozen paintings will be on display including recently refurbishe­d paintings of William Jervis Hough of Cazenovia and Thomas Barlow of Canastota. Biographie­s of the judges and artists will be on display as well as actual court cases that the judges oversaw. There is no charge for this event. For informatio­n call (315) 3662453.

Wednesday Oct. 12

•At 7 pm the Erieville/ Nelson Heritage society welcomes Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz who will present “From Bingley to Busti; A Preservati­on Tale.” Urtz will tell the story of Bingley Mill, a mill that once existed in Madison County and how it still exists in other places today. The talk will be held at the Town of Nelson Office Building. There is no charge for this event. For more informatio­n call (315) 366-2453.

Friday Oct. 14

•At 6:30 pm the Morrisvill­e Public Library will host a special evening with WWII Veteran Stan Davis. Davis was a staff sergeant in the US Army Air Corps in the European Theater during WWII. He served as a crew chief on P47 style planes as well serving as an engineer on C47 transport planes. He also was an amateur photograph­er who took and collected over 700 photos of his time overseas. Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz recently digitized these images and will feature a number of these images as part of the talk. Davis will talk about his experience­s and the photos. Saturday Oct. 15

•From 10 am to noon the Oneida Community Mansion House will host a special presentati­on for Internatio­nal Archeologi­cal Day with Dr. Anthony Wonderly, curator of collection­s, who will describe the settlement pattern around the Mansion House and lead visitors on a tour of the facility exploring several phases of use. •From 5 pm to 8 pm the Chenango Canal Associa- tion will host their annual “Halloween Happening.” The event includes a children’s costume contest, special lit-up trees and jack-o-lanterns, a clues hunt, costumed hosts, fairy tale cut-outs and “The haunted trail.”

•Onondaga Historical Associatio­n will host “The Resorts of Onondaga Lake” at the Skä-noñh – Great Law of Peace Center. Town of Geddes Historian Susan Millet will tell the stories of the glory days of the Onondaga Lake Resorts with photograph­s from the Geddes Historical Society. There is no charge for this event. Wednesday Oct. 19

•From 6 pm to 8 pm the Chittenang­o Landing Canal Boat Museum will host a Family Pumpkin Carving Night, a family night of carving pumpkins for the Erie Canal Halloween event. Pumpkins will be part of the “Candlelit Pumpkin Path” and the pumpkin carving contest. The evening includes free pizza, a Halloween-themed movie and carving pumpkins. •At 7 pm the Town of Onondaga Historical Society welcomes Dick Woodworth, who will present a program on presidenti­al history, featuring trivia as well as items from his vast collection of election memorabili­a dating back to 1860. There is no charge for this event.

•From 3 pm to 7 pm the Chittenang­o Landing Canal Boat Museum will their annual (E)erie Halloween. Bring out the family for this fun event. The festivitie­s include an haunted walk, scavenger hunt, costume contest, crafts, refreshmen­ts for purchase and a candlelit pumpkin path. •At 7 pm the Cazenovia Preservati­on Foundation will host its 3rd annual “Walk Among the Spirits” at Evergreen Cemetery in Cazenovia. Come and here history come alive as the ghosts of a poetess, a congressma­n and Civil War veteran, and others tell their stories by lamplight. Tours start promptly at 7 pm and will continue every 15 minutes until 8:45 pm. Tickets are $5 for an individual and $15 for a family. Also Sunday Oct. 23, Monday Oct.r 24. •Starting at 1 pm the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum will host will host their induction ceremonies. Starting at 1 pm new inductees John Gregg Fee, Beriah Green, Angelina Grimke and James W.C. Pennington will have symposias offered. •At 7 pm the Brookfield Historical Society will host a presentati­on by author Norman Dann entitled “Ballots & Bloomers.” Dann will present the story of the suffragett­e movement as the 2016 election nears. Thursday Oct. 27

•At 7 pm the Canastota Library welcomes Norm Dann who will present on the early life of Elizabeth Smith-Miller in Peterboro. Dann, author of the books “Ballots, Bloomers and Marmalade: The Life of Elizabeth Smith Miller” “Practical Dreamer: Gerrit Smith and the Crusade for Social Reform,” will speak about Smith-Miller’s childhood, education, and suffrage activities. •At 10 am the Oneida Community Mansion House will host a cemetery tour. Dr. Molly Jessup, curator of education, will lead attendees in a discussion about 19th century mourning culture followed by a tour of the Oneida Community Cemetery, highlighti­ng the gravesites of notable Community members. At 12 pm Dr. Pamela L. Poulin will portray Amelia Jenks Bloomer at the Cortland County Historical Society. Bloomer was the first woman to own, publish, and edit her own newspaper, starting in Seneca Falls 5 months after the first Women’s Rights Convention there, as well as being a “dress reform” advocate. Wednesday Nov. 16

•At 7 pmthe Town of Onondaga Historical Society welcomes Ed Riley, owner and renovator of the Hotel Syracuse to the Onondaga Town Hall, 5020 Ball Road. Riley will discuss the renovation process, history of the hotel and how a famous mural entitled “forefather­s” was uncovered and restored. There is no charge for this event.
