Art for kids
CAZENOVIA>> Children ages 8-14 are invited to the Cazenovia Public LibraryCommunityRoomonFriday, Oct. 7 at 1:30p.m. for the Art for Kids program. PatHill and JennaWrightMartinwill lead an exploration into the life and works of John James Audubon.
Audubon (1785-1851) was an artist, ornithologist, and naturalist celebrated for his studies, drawings, and paintings of North American birds. He is best known for his highly dramatic and realistic portraits of birds set in their natural habitats.
Participants will examine the library museum’s Natural History Collection, paying particular attention to the nineteenth century bird and egg display. Children will produce their own artistic creations in the style of Audubon’s Birds of North America. All materials will be provided. Class size is limited to ensure program quality. Family Discovery Day
ROME>> A free Family Discovery Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8650 Turin Road. The theme is “Celebrating Families Across Generations.”
Participants will discover how to find names to add to their family trees; learn new techniques to preserve their family legacy; and find out how to share their discoveries with others.
Class topics will include: Genealogy 101 (navigating websites including Ancestry.com); Ellis Island and the Castle Garden; FamilySearch.org; Where Do I Go Now (resources including cemetery indexes and newspaper archives); Revolutionary War Records and Civil War; and DNA: Unlock the Secrets of Your Family Origins (how science has advanced the search for ancestors).
