Woman charged with welfare fraud
LENOX >> A Canastota woman is facing felony welfare charges for allegedly bilking Madison County.
Megan Clark, 23, was charged with fourth-degree welfare fraud, a class E felony, and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, also a class E felony.
Police say Clark knowingly presented an application for public assistance that contained false information with the intent to defraud the Madison County Department of Social Services.
As a result, she was overpaid $1,511 in public assistance benefits.
Clark is scheduled to appear at the Lenox Town Court on Nov. 1 to answer the charges.
