STOCKBRIDGE >> You gotta get loose with Stockbridge Valley Central School this weekend as the drama club presents two showings of the American pop culture hit “Footloose.”

With showings on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday Nov. 5, SVCS visitors will have the opportunity to follow the story of Ren, a high school student who challenges the rigorous local edicts of a small town preacher’s ban on dancing.

When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, the youth struggles to fit in. He butts head with the local reverend, unable to come to terms with the ban on dancing and rock music set forth by the local preacher. Ren’s struggles against the preacher’s edicts help him catch the eye of none other than the religious man’s daughter, Ariel. What follows is the feelgood story of a father grappling with the death of a son and a young man searching for a father to replace the one who walked out on him so

long ago.

Chalk full of rock n’ roll hits, “Footloose” represents a touching coming-of-age story that has entertained generations since 1984. Fans of the original movie will be in for a surprise with new songs for the stage musical adaptation.

The Charles E. Stratton Memorial Auditorium will serve as the venue for the SVCS Drama Club production with a 7 p.m. start time.

Tickets are: Adults - $7, Students - $5, Family Plan - $25 (2 adults and 3+ kids).

The following students will offer their talents in these lead roles:

•Joshua Wagner as Ren McCormack

•Seth Cousino as Willard Hewitt

•Melanie Gardner as Ariel Moore
