Arlene G. Blakeman, 89, of Vernon

VERNON>> Arlene G. Blakeman, age 89, of Van Epps Street and a longtime resident of Fulton passed away early Thursday morning Jan. 5, 2017 at her home in Vernon surrounded by her loving children.

She was born on Jan. 30, 1927 in Syracuse, N.Y. a daughter of the late Roy E. and Ethel (Lane) Cole and attended Syracuse schools.

On April 7, 1946 Arlene and Kenneth V. Blakeman were united in marriage at Brown Memorial Church of Syracuse and shared a loving union of 57 years together until Mr. Blakeman’s death on Aug. 30, 2003.

Arlene was a homemaker and fantastic baker. Before moving to Vernon in 2005 she was a very active member of the Little Utica United Methodist Church and the church choir for many years. She was also active with the Lamson Grange, Christian Women United, United Methodist Women, DAR (The Daughters of the American Revolution) and a member of Christ Church United Methodist of Sherrill.

Surviving are two sons, Lynn (Patricia) Blakeman of Olean, Dean Blakeman of Oswego; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Jan (Timothy) Snow of Landenberg, Pa. and Sharon (John) Barattini of Sherrill; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Blakeman of Phoenix; 14 grandchildren, several greatand great-great-grandchildren, and a special friend, Frances Donhauser Fairbrother.

Arlene was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth in 2003, son Bradley in 2016 and brother Roy F. Cole in 1988.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 from 3-7 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Road, Sherrill. Arlene’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, 417 Park St., Sherrill, with the Rev. Robert Kolvik-Campbell, officiating. Spring burial will be in Jacksonville Rural Cemetery, Lysander, N.Y. In memory of Arlene donations may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middlesettlement Road, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413.
