NY GOPmust disclose ethics vote

The House Republican vote to gut the Office of Congressional Ethics came in the dark yesterday, as a surprise to even Donald Trump. Republican Congressmen voted in secret to convert a neutral office for the investigation of ethical lapses to one controlled by the Republicans, not open for investigations except at the whim of Republicans.

Transparency of government stands at the heart of our Democracy; without it, we are hard pressed to exercise any of our rights, and especially those of the First Amendment. That Republicans took to a dark night, without notice, to install their own fox in the hen house, says to me that this Congress will test the limits of democracy and decency to take it away from us.

Several organization have been trying to bring the votes to the public — to learn which of our representatives supported this dark effort. While we have learned a few of those names, we do not know how Representatives John Katko, Claudia Tenney and Elise Stefanik voted. Isn’t it time for us to have an answer? Or are they no longer our representatives?
