Lakers looking to continue strong run

OHS trying to repeat as sectional champs

The Cazenovia girls track and field teamhas had unparallel­ed success over the past seven seasons, going 48-2 since 2010 with six undefeated campaigns.

Now the Lakers are gearing up for another strong run.

Coach Kurt Wheeler (13th year, 78-9) has plenty of depth and experience coming into this season, led by returners Meggie Hart, Katie Robbins, Maddy Gavitt, Kirsten Underwood, Delaney Yates, Jamie Joseph and Brenna Hughes. Chloe Smith should be one of the top newcomers for Cazenovia.

Oneida is also coming off of a season in which it won a league title, capturing the TriValley League Pioneer Division crown as well as the Section III Class A2 championsh­ip under first-year coach Brian Mroczek (6-2). Julianna Cavanagh took third in the state in the long jump and is one of the top returners, along with Julie Emerson, Melina Ball and Emily Gioeli. They will be joined by newcomers Cami Fields, Sophia

Sanchez, Paige Nashton, Jamie Jones, Morgan Hollenbeck and Grace Coulter.

Camden enters the season trying to improve on last year’s 1-7 record under coach Steve Campbell. Allison Koch, Sarah Baird, Allison Gibson, Beth Fisher, Jenna VanAllen, Carly VanAllen and Andromeda Yahoudy-Macner are the top returners for the Blue Devils and Lizzy Lucason, Haley Hinds, MacKenzie Mix, Leandra Paul, Mary Buckingham, LeRyiah Buckingham and Catherine Seidl join the teamthis spring.

Canastota coach John Copp has a young teamthis spring, with Lindsay Bazan, Deanna Carlone, Jasmine Hannan, Cierra Jaquin, Shannon Nirelli and Emily Seale the only seniors on the squad.
