ONEIDA >> Students at Willard Prior Elementary were busy with Unity activities throughout the month of March.

Led by the Student Council and fifth grade teacher, Brian Planck, Willard Prior has engaged in several activities. Everyone was encouraged to wear their Piranha T-shirt to show unity two different times over the course of the two weeks. Singer and entertainer Brian Chevier paid a visit to the school to teach students and staff members songs about friendship and working together for the betterment of everyone.

Grade 5 students made public service announcements every day on the morning announcements to share and remind students about diversity and acceptance. Students even created posters for a poster contest displayed in the hallways of Willard Prior. Everyone in school was encouraged to create a leaf for the Unity tree. The WP Unity Tree takes up the entire wall outside of the library. The leaves share messages like, “Be Kind” and “Treat everyone the way you want to be treated.”

At the Friday morning program, students and teachers celebrated with even more activities. Students performed skits and joined in singing, “Nothing More” by The Alternate Routes. Students of the month from each classroom were honored for showing Empathy. A note from each student teacher was read aloud as students accepted their award for demonstrating Empathy.

The Willard Prior Piranhas had great celebrations of Unity over the past several weeks. Teachers congratulated the poster winners and all students who participated in the poster contest.
