AUGUSTA, N.Y.>> Three people were sent to area hospitals following a motor vehicle accident in Augusta.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, Courtney L. Hawkinson, 20, of Oriskany Falls and Roland H. Tuttle, 63, of New Berlin, were both sent to St. Elizabeth Medical in Utica with serious injuries following an accident at the intersection of Route 26 and Knoxboro Road Town of Augusta.

Richard O. Tuttle, 58, of New Berlin, a passenger in his broth- er’s vehicle, also suffered serious injuries and was sent to Faxton St. Luke’s Hospital.

Oneida County Sheriff’s deputies on scene determined through their investigation that Hawkinson was operating a 2012 Chevy Impala in an easterly direction on Knoxboro Road when she failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, striking the 1997 Ford F350 driven by Tuttle traveling north on Route 26. After impact, both vehicles came to rest in a ditch, where Hawkinson’s vehicle ended up on it side against an embankment with Tuttle’s truck partially underneath her car.

Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted on scene by Oriskany Falls FD, Vernon Center FD, Central Oneida County Ambulance, Vineall Ambulance and Madison FD Ambulance.

Hawkinson was issued a citation for failing to yield the right of way at a stop sign.
