Joseph M. Palladino, 82, of Horseheads

HORSEHEADS >> Joseph M. Palladino, age 82, passed peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2017, surrounded by his devoted children.

He is predecease­d by his parents, John Jr. and Stella (Rogus) Palladino and sister Dorothy Rickard.

Joe is survived by his children: Nancy Houle, her husband Scott, and children, Olivia and Bridget, Leominster, Mass.; Amy J. Palladino and her daughter Lucia Cofone, Old Greenwich, Conn.; Joseph D. Palladino, his wife Carolyn, and children, Sophia, Joseph and Stella, Owego N.Y.; brother John Palladino, Horseheads; sisters, Carmella Palladino and Patricia Sayers, Elmira; as well as several beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Joe graduated from Elmira Free Academy where he was a member of the 1951 championsh­ip football team. He was inducted into EFA’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1983. Joe continued his education at Cortland State Teacher’s College.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1958-1960 with the 2nd Armored Division, B Company, 37th Armor “Hell on Wheels,” in both Fort Hood, Texas and Germany. Joe retired from the New York State Police in 1991 after 27 years of proud service. He was stationed for the majority of his career in Morrisvill­e, N.Y., where he made lifelong friendship­s, and closed out his service in Berkshire, N.Y. and Owego, N.Y. Joe was a long time communican­t of St. Anthony’s Church.

Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 4-7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joe on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, 10 a.m., St. Patrick’s Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers and military honors, will follow at St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Joe with a donation to: New York State Troopers PBA Signal 30 Fund, Inc., c/o NYS Troopers PBA, 120 State St., Albany, N.Y. 12207.
