Delbert R. Richards, 68, of Harrington, Del.

HARRINGTON, DEL. >> Delbert R. Richards, of Harrington, Del., passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 68.

Delbert was born Oct. 9, 1948, in Caribou, Maine, where he was raised.

His love for horses led him to a career in horse racing, and training, throughout New York State and Delaware. Delbert was a member of the Harness Horse Racing Association of Central New York; the United States Trotting Association; and the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association. In his free time, Delbert enjoyed going to the casinos, and spending time at Murphy’s Sports Bar.

Delbert was preceded in death by a son, Brian Richards; a daughter, Carrie Richards; and his sister, Donna Sullivan.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie (DePaul) Richards; two sons, Del- bert Richards Jr. and his significant other, Bobbie Swain, and Robert Richards and wife, Dawn; a daughter, Amy LaClair and husband, Verne, of New York State; his daughter-in-law, Berna Richards; his parents, Ray and Marjorie (Clarke) Richards, of Harrington; his sister, Judy Leonard and husband, Larry, of Maryland; his grandchildren, Maria, Codi, Daniel, Summer, Alexis, Kendall, Eden, R. J. and Carson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family in Maine; and his faithful companion, his dog Riley. A gathering of family and friends was held Friday, April 7, 2017 in Pippin Funeral Home, Inc., 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, Del.
