Groups to discuss improvemen­ts

ONEIDA, N.Y.>> It’s a busy week ahead for the City of Oneida and groups interested in the ongoing efforts to revitalize and beautify the downtown.

There are three meetings currently scheduled for this week.

The City of Oneida is holding a special meeting in regards to the proposed changes to Oneida Street under the Oneida Rail Trail project. The City of Oneida is inviting downtown business owners and any interested communitym­embers to the special meeting. Discussion will include the current plan for the Rail Trail coming off-Liberty Street onto Oneida Street down to Williams Street. The proposed changes to Oneida Street, modificati­ons to downtown parking, and as well as the potential loss of parking spaces will be discussed. That meeting will take place on Thursday, April 20 ay 6:30 p.m.., also at City Hall.

Finally, the Oneida City Center Committee in conjunctio­n with students from SUNY ESF will host a third and final community workshop. Plans are to solidify a vision plan to guide future actions as well as review alternativ­e designs. ESF students will also be showing off design ideas for streets, Higinbotha­m-Park, the Oneida Rail Trail connection, and vacant spaces. That meeting is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 22 at the Kallet Civic Center beginning at 10 a.m. All are welcome.

In addition to the two special meetings, there will also be the regularly scheduled Common Council meeting.

The City of Oneida Common Council will continue to address nuisance properties as the public hearing for 253 Linden Street resumes.

Councilors will also have an opportunit­y to canvas and approve bids for pre-demolition asbestos surveys for the following properties as part of the FEMA Buyout:
