PETERBORO » Lucie Jane McConnell Brown, 84, formerly of 4083 Peterboro Road, Cazenovia, died after a long illness on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the Groton Community Healthcare Center.

She was born on July 3, 1932, in Canastota, a daughter of Richard E. McConnell and Alma A. Brewster McConnell. Lucie is predecease­d by her loving husband, Paul Lewis Brown, whom she married on May 2, 1952.

Lucie was a 1950 graduate of Canastota High School, and later attended Cortland State Teachers College where she majored in elementary education. She was a passionate and dedicated fifth grade teacher during her 20-year career at Tully Elementary Schools, from 1966 until her retirement in 1986. Lucie cared deeply for her students, as well as all of her colleagues. Following her retirement, she moved with her husband to their small farm in Peterboro. Lucie’s greatest love in life was her fam- ily and without fail, family came first. She lived a simple, good, and happy life.

Lucie was an avid reader, a gardener, and a talented cook. She played bridge and she loved to travel. Lucie was good-natured and kind, with a keen wit and an impish sense of humor.

Surviving Lucie are: a son, Stephen Brown of Peterboro; a daughter, Elizabeth Brown Comerford of Preble; a brother and two sisters-in-law, James and Roz McConnell of Oneida, and Sarah McConnell of Florida; three grandchild­ren, John Storrier of Peterboro, Anna Comerford of Boston, Mass., and Kory Brown of Canastota; one great-grandson, Miles Storrier of Homer; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Paul, she was predecease­d by a brother, Frederick McConnell, and a sister, Judith Steffen, both of Canastota.

At Lucie’s request, a private graveside service will be held at the convenienc­e of the family. Burial will be in Lenox Rural Cemetery, Canastota. Arrangemen­ts are under the supervisio­n of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota, N.Y. Contributi­ons may be made in her memory to the Friends of the Canastota Public Library, 102 W. Center St., Canastota, N.Y. 13032.
