Rodney C. ‘Rod’ Nacewicz, 68, of Sherrill

SHERRILL » Rodney C. “Rod” Nacewicz, 68, of 220 West Hinds Ave., died peacefully Saturday morning, June 24, 2017, with his wife by his side in the Oneida Healthcare where he had been admitted earlier in the week.

Rod was born on March 27, 1949, in Rome, the son of Chester S. and Daurine H. Simmons Nacewicz. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a graduate of Camden Central High School, class of 1967 and received an AAS degree in Business from SUNY Morrisvill­e.

For 22 years, Rod was the manager of Beneficial Finance Company in New Hartford, retiring in Dec. 1998. He was also the owner of B& R Sound Express Disk Jockey Service from 1985 to 1999. He later worked for Seniors Helping Seniors in Oriskany.

On Aug. 11, 1990, he married Paula L. L’Huillier in Holy Family Church in Vernon.

He was a member of St. Helena’s Church in Sherrill.

Rod loved music especially 50’s and 60’s. He was a collector of 45 records throughout his life. He was a very passionate St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Rod also enjoyed racing. He was a collector of local racetrack photograph­y. He owned a modified racing car which was raced at the Utica-Rome Speedway.

Surviving besides his loving wife, Paula, are: two daughters, Nicole Nacewicz, of Houston, Texas, and Renee (Jessica Best) Greer, of Albany; a grandson, Lincoln Wright; and a granddaugh­ter, Lily BestGreer.

Amemorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Helena’s Church, Sherrill, where the Rev. William A. Mesmer will officiate. Private interment will take place in St. Helena’s Cemetery. In keeping with Rod’s wishes, there are no calling hours. Memorial contributi­ons may be made in Rod’s memory to the Wanderer’s Rest Humane Society, PO Box 535, Canastota, N.Y, 13032.
