Sherrill Post stays hot with lopsided home win

Ryan Palmer’s three-run home run ended Sherrill Post’s 11-1 victory over Clonan Post early on Sunday while the Sherrill Silversmit­hs went 1-1over the weekend. More details in today’s local roundup.

SHERRILL POST 11, CLONAN POST1(6INNINGS) » Sherrill Post won its fifth consecutiv­e American Legion Baseball game on Sunday afternoon, defeating Clonan Post in a mercy-rule shortened game. Ryan Palmer ended the game with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, putting the hosts ahead by 10. Blake VanDreason went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in thewinning effort.

ROCHESTER 7, SHERRILL 4 » The Silversmit­hs fell into a 6-0 hole before coming back with three runs in the top of the seventh, two coming on a single by Tully Allen. After Rochester scored in the bottomof the eighth, Sherrill loaded the bases against Keven Mackintosh in the top of the ninth and Jake Coro walked to force in a run and bring the potential go-ahead run to the plate. The Ridgemen brought TJ Lanning in to face Kingsley Ballao and he flew out to center field to end the game.

SHERRILL 10, ROME 1 » The Silversmit­hs pounded the Generals at home behind a big day from Michael Wroth at the plate. The first baseman slugged two home runs as part of a 3-for-5 effort that also included a double, four RBI and three runs scored. Five other players had multi-hit games in the victory for Sherrill and John O’Donnell was dominant on the mound, striking out seven in a completega­me three-hitter.
