Community park and playground given OK
WAMPSVILLE » Area residents will soon be able to enjoy a new community park and playground in Wampsville thanks to a partnership between the village, town of Lenox and Madison County.
The Madison County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution at its meeting Tuesday allowing for county-owned property in front of the Department of Social Services building to be used for the park. The resolution also details an agreement between the county, town of Lenox and village of Wampsville that commits the county to maintaining the park and playground after its construction and provide liability insurance on the property.
Work on the park is slated to start in the fall and is expected to be completed in three phases. The park and playground are designed to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and will feature a maypole, an accelerator swing, hopscotch, a wobble sphere, ten spin, musical instruments, tire animals, tetherball, slide, playground, quattro seasaw, a garden and several benches and picnic tables.
The Wampsville Park and Playground Committee, made up of community members, staff and elected officials from the county and two participating municipalities, said their aim is to provide a welcoming space inclusive to all community members. Committee Member Lori Brockway told the board Tuesday the park will provide play and relaxation for people of all “ages and stages.”
It’s also within the committee’s goals to provide a safe and functional space for DSS case workers and their clients, particularly parents and children during supervised visitation.
Each phase of the project will be completed pending funding. The committee will be seeking grants to support the project as well as accepting donations and
doing fundraising.
