CAZENOVIA, N.Y. » The last time Cazenovia and Moravia squared off on the field hockey pitch, the Lakers walked away with a 4-0 victory courtesy of four different goal scorers.

Tuesday, when Moravia visited the Lakers, the result was nearly identical. Four different players found the back of the cage for Cazenovia en route to a 5-0 victory.

Zoe Shephard scored twice and tallied three assists for home team, and Emmie Dolbear, Katie Ammann, and Peyton Clarke all recorded a goal as the Lakers cruised on Tuesday.

Cazenovia dominated time of possession throughout the contest, particularly in their fourscore second half.

“Well definitely it’s a possession game. We try and work on just quick passes,” coach Lorraine Sheftic said of her team’s possession. “We work on stick work drills every day, and I think sometimes, our stick work just ends up being better than the other team’s stick work and ourmidfielders get to push up. Our defense played really well tonight which allowed our midfield to push up more.”

After being held to a single goal in the first half, the Lakers heated up in the second for four more tallies.

Four minutes later, Ka- tie Ammann cleaned up a ricochet to bring the score to 3-0.

With 18 minutes left, Shephard rocketed a shot toward the Moravia keeper, but it was blocked. Teammate Molly Brown corralled the rebound and sent it back to Shephard for another shot. Shephard did not miss the second time, and the Laker lead grew to 4- 0. A final tally with eight minutes left to play gave the Lakers a 5-0 edge, one that they would carry to the end.

With the victory, coach Lorraine Scheftic’s Lakers improve to 13-1-1 on the season. Including Tuesday’s victory, Cazenovia has won 11 straight contests dating back to September.

“They are pretty disciplined. They know what we need to do. They know what I expect them to do,” Sheftic said as to how her squad maintains their con- centration during such a win streak. “They are just a great bunch of kids. They really stay focused on their own. I guess the biggest thing I do is try to come up with drills that are fresh and new.”

Cazenovia will look to continue its winning ways on Thursday against Homer.

Moravia is due to face Baldwinsville on Thursday as it looks to get back into the win column.
