Paws ‘N Pumpkins
Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association invites the public to Paws ‘N Pumpkins, a family fun event, on Sunday, Oct. 22 from 12-3 p.m. in Army Carinci Park at 421 Sconondoa St., Oneida.
Those attending can meet Lewis Carinci, Supervisor of Wards 4, 5 and 6 at a ceremony honoring Joyce Carinci, the First Lady in Oneida for 45 years. Adoptable Shelter Dogs and Cats will be on hand for everyone to visit. Hot dogs and apple cider will be available. Those attending are invited to bring donations including dry or canned pet food for the shelter’s Pet Food Pantry.
Warm Hearts & Hands will be collecting winter coats and accessories (hats, gloves, mittens and scarves) for men, women and children.
“Pictures With Your Pet” offered by area photographer for a donation to benefit Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association.
An adoption discount is available for all U.S. veterans
through the end of November.
Zoo Boo
The Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse will be transformed into a bustling Halloween bash with hauntingly hilarious activities for kids and families to enjoy on Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 22, 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
The “kooky not spooky” theme provides Halloween fun without the fear. Kids (and parents) are encouraged to wear costumes. Daytime hours mean Zoo Boo participants can see the entire zoo and animal collection. Admission is $8, in addition to regular zoo admission.
Meteorologist’s visit
The Chittenango High School Science Department will host John Di-Pasquale, meteorologist at WSYR in Syracuse on Oct. 23 at 2:15 p.m. in the high school auditorium as part of the ongoing Science Symposium Series. DiPasquale will discuss recent hurricane events, sharing information on how to become a meteorologist and wrapping up his presentation with his long range winter forecast. Students, staff and community members are welcome to attend. Visitors should park in the Lake Street Elementary lot and enter through the front doors.
OHS presents “Rachel’s Challenge”
The Oneida High School Guidance Office will host “Rachel’s Challenge,” a program to edu- cate students about bullying on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The event is recommended for students in grade 7 and older.
“Rachel’s Challenge” tells the true story of Rachel Joy Scott, whose life was cut short during the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999. For more information, visit www.rachelschallenge.org.
Oneida Library
Events at Oneida Public Library include:
Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m., Board of Trustees meeting to be held in the library’s History Room, 220 Broad St., Oneida. The public is invited to attend. The History Room permits barrier-free access to the physically handicapped.
Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. Escape the Library: Young teens will team up to solve puzzles, riddles and number combinations to unlock themselves and escape the librarian holding them captive.
On Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. OPL’s Miss Megan invites preschoolers and their parents or guardians to a Halloween party with stories, games and candy. All are invited to come in costumes and participate in a Ragamuffin Parade.

Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 9-11:30 a.m. at Cedar House in Oneida; Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 1:30-5:30 p.m. at DeRuyter Central School; Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 3:30-5:30 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 27 from 12:30-3:30 p.m.
Clinics are held at the health department, 138 N. Court St. Bldg. 5, Wampsville unless otherwise indicated. Tuesday clinics are flu clinics only. Patients should bring their health insurance cards. Clinics are by appointment; call (315) 366-2848 or visit www.healthymadisoncounty.org.
Free movies
Sullivan Free Library in Chittenango will host its Wednesday Free Matinee at 1 p.m. on Oct. 25 in the Community Room. The movie will be “The Exception,” rated R, running 98 minutes, starring Christopher Plummer and Lily James in a WWII thriller. Admission and popcorn are free; viewers may bring their own snacks and beverages.
At the Sherrill-Kenwood Free Library the Wednesday, Oct. 25 matinee at 1:30 p.m. is “The Book of Henry” starring Naomi Watts. Popcorn and admission are free.
