City joins Zonta’s anti-violence campaign
Mayor Leo Matzke issued a proclamation recognizing the ‘Zonta Says NO to Violence’ campaign.
ONEIDA, N.Y. » For almost 100 years, Zonta International has strived to achieve a world free of violence against women and girls through service and advocacy.
On Nov. 29, Mayor Leo Matzke presented the Oneida Area Zonta Club with a framed proclamation recognizing Nov. 25 through Dec. 10 as the Zonta Says “NO” to Violence Against Women Campaign, and encouraged all residents to help put an end to violence against women.
“There is no justification for violent behavior against women or girls,” Matzke said outside of the Kallet Civic Center.
Zonta has mounted a campaign of orange ribbons and orange light bulbs to show support to end vi- olence to women and girls in the form of human trafficking and gender equality.
Zonta’s ongoing service efforts are demonstrated through numerous local projects and programs through the Zonta International Strategies to End Violence against Women (ZISVAW) programand through Zonta’s partnerships with the United Nations and its agencies.
The “Zonta Says NO to
Violence Against Women,” launched in 2012, has raised awareness of the global pandemic of women’s rights violations and has united Zonta clubs worldwide in conducting impactful actions to fight violence against women and gender inequality.
Those who wish to show support are encouraged to put orange lights in their windows.
